Balance of Nature Review - The Color Diet

I talk a lot about the importance of eating a lot of fruits and vegetables across the color spectrum.  The reason I stress this so much is because this type of diet is what healed me from a severe illness.

Three days before Christmas in 2020 I was admitted to the hospital in a level five emergency (yep, that’s the worst kind).  Even though I wasn’t expected to survive, I left 4 days later but with essentially no medical nutritional guidance.  Instead I leaned on the nutritional knowledge I’d learned from 20 years of personal training and teaching group fitness classes.

What I ended up doing was the simplest and most effective, which was eating at least 12-15 servings of fruits and vegetables.  Lo and behold, within 2 months, my bloodwork was almost totally back to normal.

This is why when I started seeing Balance of Nature commercials, I reached out to the company since our philosophies on diets were the same.  The product is intended to help people regain and maintain health by delivering them fruits and vegetables in capsule form.  The belief of the founder is that overloading your body with the nutrients in a produce-heavy diet will provide your healthiest body, more energy, and a longer life.

My first thought was “that’s exactly what I did to get healthy again, and I wish I’d had that!”  So I emailed Balance of Nature and asked if perhaps they would consider my story as a good sales point for their product.  They said that they preferred honest reviews of the product, so they sent me a month for free.  I appreciated that they were letting the product speak for itself.

The system comes with three separate products:  a bottle of veggie capsules, a bottle of fruit capsules, and a container of fiber & spice powder (they are really checking all the boxes – spices are so good for you!).  This is the ultimate hit of antioxidants packaged into 6 capsules and two spoonfuls every day.

The insert in the box encourages you to smell the pills.  They smell like fresh fruits and vegetables for sure.  In fact, they even taste like them!  The vegetable capsule has a faint taste of spinach, and the fruit one is a little sweet.  Either way, the taste is not strong, so if have an aversion to pills with weird tastes, you won’t have an issue.  They taste like muted versions of produce.

The reason they taste like real fruits and vegetables is that they ARE. Fresh produce is flash dried and ground into a powder, then put into capsules. That means you are getting all the nutrients of your daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables in 6 capsules!

The pills are a little big, so if you have a hard time swallowing, you can break them open and stir them into water.  I haven’t tried this yet, but based on the smell, I imagine it would taste pretty good (especially the fruit).  Otherwise just be sure you drink a lot of water to make them go down more easily.

Now for the fiber powder.  I was nervous about this at first.  Don’t be though!  You just need to know the trick about adding a lot of water.  They suggest “at least 16 ounces”…I highlight AT LEAST.  The powder mixes much better if you overdilute it, as does any powder you put into drinks.  Remember the clumps of Crystal Light back in the day?  It happens if you don’t have enough liquid and if you don’t stir or shake enough.  FYI, you don’t need a shaker for this – I had good results just stirring really well with a butter knife.

Note:  the system also comes with access to health coach that I did not utilize because of my background, but I highly encourage you to take advantage of that service if you have any questions or want guidance!

Now before I get into the results I’ve experience, keep in mind that I already eat a diet pretty heavy in fruits and vegetables.  That is what surprised me the most, actually. If you struggle to meet your minimum servings, I would think you will have even more noticeable results

Even though I eat a lot of produce, I noticed a difference with Balance of Nature.

Here’s what happened to me:

More Energy.

I have needed less coffee (a cup or two fewer per day) and in general wake up earlier, even before my alarm.

While I am generally a morning person, I even surprised myself that I wasn’t dragging even on rainy mornings that usually do a number on my sinuses and energy.  This also means my morning workouts have been better since I just have more energy all-around to push myself.

Ease of Sleep.

I’m sleeping better.  While I tend to use melatonin, I still usually wake up in the middle of the night and can have some trouble falling back to sleep.

I have not (yet!) had an issue falling back to sleep, which alone is worth the monthly fee for me.

Better Digestion.

Less bloating, heartburn, and general discomfort.  This one I wasn’t expecting, and it was a pleasant surprise.

Brighter Skin.

I just look glowier.  Remember that antioxidants are better for your skin than a good night cream!

Less Cravings.

This one surprised me.  Potentially part of it was a psychological health halo where I didn’t want things because I felt so virtuous eating so many nutrients that my mind didn’t wander over to a stack of Oreos (and if this is the case, who cares, because less sweets cravings is a good thing always), but physiologically I was getting so many nutrients that my body didn’t need anything additional.

I feel so good after almost a month, that I put my money where my mouth is and subscribed going forward!  So while they gave me a free month, yes, the product is that good that !I subscribed!
